The Chairousel was one of 16 installations displayed within Times Square’s Design Pavilion 2019, as part of NYCxDESIGN, a citywide design celebration in New York City. The Chairousel was a refurbished 1960s carousel by the 3D Design and Interior Design departments at the School of Visual Arts. It featured works by designers that creatively interpreted the simple concept of chairs.
I worked as a production designer on the project, assisting in the design and fabrication of assets, as well as the final curation and staging of the installation. I contributed my telephone chairs, a solution which aims to represent my love for vintage and antique objects. Starting with two retro handset phones, I wove telephone cable around two chairs, which were welded together to create a bench reminiscent of classic mid-century telephone tables.
